A laser (acronym, in English, of light amplified by stimulated emission of radiation) is a device that releases a bright, monochromatic and controllable beam of light, with which a large amount of energy can be deposited by applying it on one of the pigments present on the skin. This light is absorbed by the hair melanin, causing the heating of the cells present in the hair shaft, which are destroyed and, in this way, hair is removed.

Melanin is the natural substance responsible for the colouring of the hair follicle, but the skin also contains melanin, so the laser devices used for hair removal are adjusted so that they emit light at the appropriate wavelength to be absorbed by the melanin of the hair follicle without damaging the surrounding skin. When melanin absorbs light energy, it transforms it into thermal energy, and the resulting heat is what delays follicular growth. The wavelength of the laser is measured in nanometres (Nm), and the one that is usually used for hair removal is between 700 and 1,400 Nm because it favours a greater absorption by melanin.

How is a laser hair removal session done?

During the session of laser hair removal in Delhi, you will experience a burning sensation with each shot, which can be quite annoying in the first two or three sessions (depending on your tolerance to pain and the area to be treated), but which is attenuated in the sessions afterwards, especially if the equipment incorporates a cooling system that cools the skin.

The session lasts only a few minutes (although it can reach an hour in the case of extensive body areas, such as the legs), and at the end of the skin is slightly red, recovering its normal tone after about half an hour, although in some cases the redness remains for 24-48 hours. After a few days you can see how the dead hair comes off.

Some patients may bruise and, although it is infrequent, it can also happen that the follicle is infected (folliculitis) and granites leave, which can be treated by applying an antibiotic cream to the area.

At the beginning of the treatment, the sessions of laser hair removal in Delhi are repeated with an interval of about six weeks for facial hair, and between two or three months for body areas. Subsequently, and depending on each patient’s own factors (skin type, hair and response to treatment), the sessions are spaced according to the criteria of the supervising physician.

Who can shave with laser

The objective of the laser is the melanin present in the hair follicle, and the higher the concentration of melanin, the more effective the treatment will be. For this reason, grey hairs or with poor pigmentation, lacking melanin or not having a sufficient concentration thereof, cannot be removed by laser. Therefore, if your hair is blond or red hair it is not advisable to try laser hair removal because at present there is no technology available that guarantees the effectiveness of the treatment.

Another factor that influences, and that may contraindicate the use of a laser equipment is the skin tone of the patient. Melanin is also responsible for the colour of our skin, which means that the darker it is, the more melanin it contains, and there is a greater risk of damage from overheating on the skin surface when the laser is applied.

In addition, laser hair removal in Janakpuri should not be done on skins that have recently been exposed to the sun, or that are tanned, even if the colour is due to the application of self – tanners, because these work by stimulating the production of melanin, and the laser could cause burns on the skin.

The ideal candidates for laser hair removal in Delhi are, then, people with clear skin and dark and thick hair; However, there are new generation equipment that can be used in slightly darker skins, so consult a dermatologist in Delhi which is the most appropriate system for you. In medical centres specialized in laser hair removal they take into account the skin photo type of the patient to choose the most suitable laser, and they have systems such as Dynamic or Moving Hair Removal, Dual Laser Hair Removal or Photoshoot-Depilation, which are safer for the dark skins.

The laser hair removal is suitable for men and women, but androgens (male hormones) interfere with the treatment because they favour the development of mature hair from hair follicles are in a resting phase, and both men, and the women who suffer from hormonal disorders, usually need more sessions for this reason.

Areas that can be laser shaved

The laser hair removal treatment in Delhi can be performed on the entire body, except the lower edge of the eyebrows that could affect the eyeball.

The laser, however, is more effective in certain parts of the body; in women, for example, armpits, groin and legs are the most susceptible areas and maintain excellent long-term results. However, the facial area is much more resistant to treatment because it has a high follicular density and the hair is much thinner (thick hair absorbs more energy). With the arrival of menopause, in addition, it is very common to activate new hairs in areas such as the cheekbones or chin.

The effectiveness of the laser in the long term is associated with certain hormonal or physiological changes of the patient, and for that reason in the case of facial hair and in androgen-dependent areas, it cannot be considered a definitive hair removal, because the laser destroys the hair that is It is active at the time of performing the procedure, but in the facial area, for example, there are numerous primordial hair follicles at rest, which may develop in the future, so the patient will need new sessions to eliminate them, although more spaced in the weather.

When the area to be depilated has a high density of hair, it may require a greater number of sessions because less power should be used because heating a large amount of hairs, concentrated in a small cutaneous surface, can mean that the skin is also hot in excess, with the consequent irritation.
