What is vitiligo
The Vitiligo it is clinically characterized by the appearance of spots or hypochromic achromic to skin level, mucous membranes and skin appendages following the destruction of melanocytes on the involved skin. It may be associated with other pathologies to alleged or established autoimmune pathogenesis, in particular thyroid disease, pernicious anaemia, diabetes mellitus. It generally does not show symptoms like pruritus but some skin irritation is felt before new lesions appear.
Causes of vitiligo
Vitiligo is considered an autoimmune disease in which the organism progressively eliminates the melanocytes. Repeated traumas can trigger the phenomenon. A possible role of genetic factors is suggested by the fact that 20-40% of subjects with vitiligo have one or more relatives affected by this disease.
